DANCING IN
MY MOTHERS' ARMS
"Chadwick.....an exquisite find" The Guardian
A solo song theatre performance accompanied by a pack of cards and
a pair of hands, by something bowed and the smallest dance, by a
drum and a heart beat. The show includes a Georgian working dance
and the smallest cup of tea.
A SONG IN MY FOOT
"Immaculate a cappella" Classical Source
A celebration of the vibrancy of South America. the
performance draws on poetry and musical ideas from Helen's tours
in Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and Bolivia. This uplifting
a cappella performance by four singers includes songs with foot
patterns, cross rhythms and body percussion. Influenced by the Quechua
women's dances in Bolivia, by the hocket patterns of pan pipes,
and by Brazilian children's clapping games. The songs are interlaced
with wild and delicious stories from these singing journeys.
SONGS OUT OF THE HIDDEN CONTINENT
"Helen Chadwick orchestrates a haunting evening.......exceptional"
SCENE
Toasts and stunning songs inspired by journeys to the former Soviet
Union. Since the break up of the Soviet Union Helen has toured and
done song research trips to Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, the
Ukraine and Russia. Songs out of the Hidden Continent is
inspired by these travels. The songs include examples of magnificent
traditional songs as well as Helen's harmony songs, inspired by
a Russian text, a Georgian dance or a Ukrainian harmony. The songs
are woven together with traditional toasts and pancake making.
NOT THE LOVE STORY I WAS EXPECTING
"The wickedly talented Helen Chadwick has done it again"
WOMEN IN MUSIC
The love poetry of Turkey, Persia, Russia,
England, France, Spain and Chile provide the lyrics for a cycle
of songs threaded with unexpected, hilarious and often disastrous
love stories.
PAX PACE PAZ PAIX PEACE
Commissioned for Trafalgar Square and also
performed in village halls, this performance is inspired by those
who work for peace. It includes lyrics by Aung San Suu Kyi and Pablo
Neruda
THE BRIGHT FIELD
A concert of Chadwick's stunning harmony songs inspired by the
land and including lyrics by R.S Thomas, Kathleen Raine and the
Finnish epic The Kalavala.
SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCES
specially designed for the acoustics and architecture
of each venue. The performances utilise the chosen venue to the
full with singers moving through the space, now above, now among,
now surrounding the audience. Simple movement patterns reflect both
the material of the songs and the building itself.
Both these performances are adaptable for other
spaces. New site specific commssions can also be created.
